5 reasons why golfing on Prince Edward Island is best

By Sam MacPhail

There are hundreds of reasons why Prince Edward Island makes the perfect destination for your next golf trip. Here are five of them to make your life easier.

1. VARIETY

On Prince Edward Island, you will find a wide variety of options as we harbour the most golf courses per capita (we did the math: 17.84 courses per 100,000 people, based on 2019 figures). Whether it’s views of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast, rolling hillsides overlooking hayfields, or classic parkland layouts, the options are endless. The only concern you’ll have is trying to fit as many courses as possible into your trip.

2. PROXIMITY

How far away is Cavendish from Charlottetown? About a half hour.

What about Crowbush? A little over a half hour.

Is everything that close? Well yes, more or less.

Islanders jokingly say everything is less than twenty minutes or half an hour away, whether you’re going golfing, heading to the beach, or taking in some of our world-famous culinary experiences. This isn’t stretching the truth, the proximity of almost everything on the Island is extremely close, and without the big city traffic you may expect elsewhere. You are never far away from your nearest adventure.

3. VALUE

Comparatively speaking, Prince Edward Island offers tremendous bang for your buck in golf. At high season, our most expensive green fee is $140, with a majority of our courses being between $70 and $100. This means you can fit in more golf for a lot less. Don’t believe it? Check out our golf course comparison charts.

4. PEOPLE

Hospitality is our thing on Prince Edward Island. The people you will encounter are the friendliest bunch you will ever meet. Our operators have immense passion and pride for their respective courses, showing the moment you step onto the property. The cast of Island characters you will meet at all corners of our province will leave lasting impressions on your trip. You’ll quickly discover that everyone here knows everybody, and the Island community is interconnected from tip to tip.

5. FUN!

The unique advantage of Prince Edward Island as a golf destination is that our province has so much more to offer in addition to golf. Once you are here, you have everything at your fingertips. Want to take in a show? Great, head down to the Confederation Centre of the Arts. Want to experience Chef Michael Smith’s Fireworks Feast? No problem. How about a beach day, or maybe even a boat tour? We have no shortage of those, either. All of this and more is easily accessible once you get to PEI.

These are some reasons you might choose PEI as your next golf vacation. Our team is ready to serve and welcome you.
